Days of ’76 committee members, including 2012 chairman Chris Roberts of Deadwood, were on hand to accept the award. Nominated alongside the Days of ’76 in the Medium Outdoor Rodeo category were rodeos in Estes Park, Colo., Crossett, Ark., Ogden, Utah, and Lufkin, Texas. More than 130 PRCA Rodeos take place annually in the category. Rodeo of the Year winners are selected by rodeo cowboys, announcers, bullfighters, clowns and other rodeo industry personnel. “This is surreal. While we strive to be the best in the country in all aspects of our rodeo, our committee realizes the class of rodeos we compete against year-in, year-out for this award. This is a tough competition, and we are truly honored to simply be nominated alongside these other rodeos,” Roberts said. “Winning another award shows this committee’s dedication to all aspects of the rodeo. We also know this is not a time to rest on our successes; we’ll continue to make improvements to make the rodeo even better.” The 91st annual Days of ’76 Rodeo – which includes two parades on Deadwood’s Main Street – will be held July 23-27, 2013.
