It's that time of the year already, time to start making plans for the Custer State Park Buffalo Roundup. The Roundup takes place on September 24th.

We are proud to announce that the 12th annual "Voices of Hope for children" benefit auction has raised over $16,000 for the Northern Hills Area CASA program!

The Northern Hills Area CASA Program will hold its 12th annual Voices of Hope for Children benefit auction at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 17, at the Lodge at Deadwood.

On Wednesday, August 8, the Lodge at Deadwood hosted the induction ceremony for several new motorcycle legends into the Sturgis Motorcycle Hall of Fame.

A great day for a bike ride through the Hills and Spearfish Canyon took us to the source of one of Agent Spork’s favorite Reuben sandwiches. I had heard much about his previous dining experience at this sports bar and insisted on trying the Reuben.

I hate sports bars, but this one is special and classy and nicely appointed with high ceilings, good lighting, plenty of large screen TVs, but not too loud, and on this day the European soccer championships featured a game we wanted to see. The bar is 3-sided and the sound system was on for the soccer game only.

DEADWOOD – Deadwood History will celebrate the 12^th anniversary of the Historic Adams House opening to the public on Sunday, July 1, 2012, by offering discounted admission rates.  Admission for the day is $3.50 for adults, $1 for children ages 7 – 13, and free to children 6 and under.  Refreshments will be served.  Please call 605-578-3724 for more information.

“Wild Bill” Hickok settled into a seat at the Old Saloon #10 on Main Street. Jack McCall approached him from behind and stuck a .45 pistol to Hickok’s head.

With that shot, Deadwood’s place in poker lore was forever cemented, as was the last hand Wild Bill was ever dealt — aces and eights.

Now, the town of 1,300 in the Black Hills of South Dakota is reasserting itself on the poker map, raising bet limits on July 1 from $100 to $1,000. While no one is certain how big of an effect the vastly bigger bets will have, enthusiasm is abound that it’ll make poker players in Denver, Minnesota, Iowa and beyond take another look at the bustling tourist town steeped in poker history.
